Well, I use the same grip as Kevin does, gripping the left part of the controller. Some people think it's strange, but I think it feels better. I use the same gray controller every time, the kind that came with the N64. I first got the N64 for my 14th birthday, May 14, 1997. A couple weeks later, after we had played a rented Mario Kart 64 game that my friend brought over, my 11-year-old brother wanted to buy it. Personally, I hated the game, because they kept on beating me in Vs. mode. Finally, I consented to pay for half of the game. Then I became hooked. I started beating my little brother, and then my friend. It became great. As I later started reading the instruction manual about power slides and mini-turbos, I started getting even better yet. Then I got the course ghost for Luigi Raceway. I thought that I must be the best player in the world. Then I beat the ghost. Better yet. Then I got the course ghosts for the other two courses, after I read about them on the internet, and immediately whooped them. At this point, I discovered Andy's page. It was an unbelievable sight. The names that most stood out on that page were Kevin Booth, Jonathan Bernier, Jason Whalls, and Andy Launspach. David Wonn's name appeared very frequently in the shortcut standings. Well, I was determined to catch up with these people. In the winter of 1997-1998, I got better. I started getting in the 1'44s in Luigi Raceway, and then in the high 1'43s. I broke a 34 second lap on Luigi Raceway, which soon became my favorite course. Then I started staying closer to the line, and my times kept on getting lower and lower. After I could get into the 1'42s and 32s, I started practicing the straight-away mini-turbo technique that Kevin had talked to me about.

I hope this tells everyone something about my Mario Kart 64 history. My AOL Instant Messenger name is KartElite, if anyone wants to talk to me.
