I guess it's kind of a shame that I lost the passion to play that I once had. I guess it was different when I had the Japanese version, and I considered my self one of the extreme lucky ones to be playing the game already.

My real passion was for the original though. I remember back to the first couple years of college when my brother and I would play that game for at least a couple of hours EVERY day. And that went on like for over two years! I honestly thought that there could be no one out there that could beat me (that is except for my brother). I remember my room mates watching us in amazement while we would zip through the rainbow road track at full speed with the big guys(donkey kong jr and bowser) and never losing even an ounce of speed. THOSE were the good old days. The only problem was that the game was really never all that popular way back then, well not nearly as popular MK64 is now. Our talents went unnoticed for all those years.

When I found out that there was going to be a N64 version coming out, my brother and I couldn't believe it. I had to get it as soon as possible. BUT, to our dissapointment, the game did not play just like the original. We later found out how the power slides worked, with the R's changing colors and all creating mini-turbos) and said, well maybe this aint so bad after all. We practiced, and practiced, until we had it mastered. It finally got to the point where we could get those mini-turbos out one after another, and who ever was better at getting out more mini-turbos,and get them out faster, was going to win. We discovered that this game could be fun too, simply because of this technique. The items seemed to TOTALLY ruin the game, because who ever got the better items would win. Thats not any fun. So we would play without using items, and simply play to race, not to see who could stay behind, pick up a lightning bolt or red shell or whatever, and then pass the other guy. And we got REALLY good by doing this. It was kinda like the old days of playing the original. It got to the point, just like with the first, that I thought there's probably no one out there that I couldn't beat.

Then when I saw that someone had a records web page (Chuck's) I thought, well I might as well put my times on there, since there weren't that many there anyway, and my times were much better then any of the ones already there. And, I guess the rest is history.

Eventually more people started to get some better times, and It got to the point where it became a big hassle to just sit there and try to get .01 seconds faster on Mario circuit, it was much more fun to race against my brother, or play battle mode with a couple friends, and for the next few months, thats all I did with the game.

And that's where I am now, only other games came out, like Starfox, and we also discovered that when it came down to it, Wave Race was a better racing game (but MK64 was still better because of the battle mode). and now all we play on N64 is Goldeneye, and when my friends come over, all we do is have death matches, and occasionally play some battle mode in Mario Kart, and accasionally dogfight in StarFox.

It sure would be cool if we could just race against each other, over a modem or something, instead of just trying to squeeze .02 seconds out of Toads Turnpike. It sure would be a lot more fun, don't ya think?

ATTENTION VISITORS: These Times I got that are not in Green, where set before March 10th, 1997! I think these were awsome times back then..... they are still good advanced points to beat even now!
